However, in-game currency, purchased Shark Cards, owned properties, garages, businesses, and unlocked weapons remain stranded on the original platform.

Community-driven workarounds have emerged over the years to soften this limitation. Some players maintain parallel accounts, manually recreating their characters and grinding through the early ranks to rebuild a similar loadout. Others coordinate with friends across platforms to transfer in-game gifts or assist with high-paying missions, treating the new account as a fresh start rather than a true continuation. A small but vocal group has petitioned Rockstar for formal cross-progression support, citing the technical successes of other live-service titles.

The legal and technical reasoning behind the restriction often traces back to platform holder agreements, regional storefronts, and the complex licensing of microtransactions across competing digital ecosystems. Shark Card purchases, in particular, fall under the jurisdiction of the platform's billing infrastructure, making a clean transfer of purchased currency legally and logistically tangled. As a result, any migration is effectively a soft reset, requiring patience, renewed grinding, and an acceptance that the criminal empire built on one platform cannot be packed into a suitcase and carried to another.
