The scenario begins during the 'The Big Score' heist on the Union Depository. As Trevor, Franklin, and Michael escape with the gold, a sudden, reality-warping anomaly manifests, a side effect of the chaos they've unleashed. A shimmering portal opens, and the getaway truck is pulled through, stranding the trio in the persistent world of GTA Online. They find themselves in a Los Santos they barely recognize, where the rules of their narrative-driven reality have been replaced by the player-driven chaos of freemode. Their first priority is survival and understanding their new environment. They quickly learn that the city is a battleground for competing player crews, each with their own agendas, and that the police response is far more brutal and coordinated than anything they've faced. The core of the story is their struggle to adapt. Michael, the failed bank robber, tries to apply his old heist logic, only to find it useless against players in customized Oppressors and jets. They are forced to work for the most powerful and untrustworthy figures in the online underworld, like the IAA or the Diamond Casino, performing dangerous missions that blur the line between story and online content. The climax involves a massive, multi-stage operation to stabilize the dimensional rift, which requires them to command a temporary alliance of players to pull off what is essentially the most complex heist in GTA history, blending the cinematic flair of the story mode with the chaotic coordination of online gameplay.
