Moses Inwang

Moses Inwang was born in Lagos in 1978 and grew up surrounded by the vibrant street markets and the nascent film studios that dotted the city. He studied film production at the University of Ibadan, where he honed his craft in screenwriting and editing while working on student shorts that would later attract the attention of local producers.

In 2004, Inwang made his feature debut with the low‑budget thriller *Tangled Roots*, a film that explored the generational tensions within a Lagos family and earned him a nomination for Best New Director at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. The success of that project opened doors to larger budgets and more ambitious narratives.

His subsequent works, such as *Blood in the Nile* (2015), *Echoes of Lagos* (2019), and *The Ebony Crown* (2021), showcase a distinct visual style that blends kinetic camera work with a deep commitment to authentic cultural representation. Inwang is praised for his ability to weave complex social issues—such as corruption, migration, and gender dynamics—into compelling, character‑driven stories.

Inwang’s films have consistently performed well both domestically and internationally, earning him a Best Director prize at the Cannes Critics’ Week for *The Lion’s Heart* (2022). He has also been a key figure in expanding Nollywood’s reach through co‑productions with French and South Korean partners, thereby bringing Nigerian stories to a broader audience.

Looking ahead, Moses Inwang is developing a multi‑season series for a streaming platform that will explore the intersection of technology and tradition in modern Africa. He remains committed to fostering new talent in the region, frequently mentoring emerging filmmakers through workshops and film festivals across the continent.
