Hayao Miyazaki

Miyazaki began his animation career in the early 1960s at Toei Animation, working on television series and films where he honed his craft and developed a distinctive visual language. In 1985, he co‑founded Studio Ghibli with producer Toshio Suzuki and animator Isao Takahata, establishing a studio that would become a cornerstone of Japanese animation.

His directing style is characterized by a profound respect for nature, often featuring lush forests, flowing rivers, and spirits that embody natural forces. The protagonists, usually young girls, navigate moral complexities, learning courage and compassion while confronting fantastical challenges.
