David Leitch

David Leitch began his career in the stunt and action community, working as a stunt performer, stunt coordinator, and second-unit director before becoming a feature filmmaker. His background in physical performance helped shape a directing style built around clarity, momentum, and an appreciation for the danger and precision of action cinema.

Leitch first gained major recognition through his work on John Wick, which he co-directed with Chad Stahelski. The film helped redefine modern action filmmaking with its fluid gun-fu choreography, neon-lit atmosphere, and disciplined world-building. Although Leitch was not credited as a director on the film because of guild rules, his influence on its visual language and action design was significant.

As a solo director, Leitch expanded into stylish, high-concept genre filmmaking with Atomic Blonde, a Cold War spy thriller built around long-take fight scenes, a pulsing soundtrack, and a cool, graphic visual style. He followed it with Deadpool 2, where he balanced irreverent comedy, superhero spectacle, and emotional stakes while maintaining a fast, muscular action rhythm.

Leitch’s later films have continued to explore the intersection of action, humor, and meta-cinema. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw emphasized oversized stunt spectacle and buddy-comedy energy, while Bullet Train turned a confined train setting into a colorful, ensemble-driven action comedy. The Fall Guy further reflected his interests in stunt performance, filmmaking mythology, and the people who create cinematic danger without always receiving the spotlight.
