Luxo Jr.

Luxo Jr. is a small, articulated desk lamp, modeled on an iconic Anglepoise-style task lamp, who has served as the de facto mascot of Pixar Animation Studios since the studio's early days. He first appeared in the 1986 animated short film "Luxo Jr.," directed by John Lasseter, in which the curious little lamp playfully investigates a beach ball, bouncing up and down on his springy base while his larger parent lamp watches over him. The short demonstrated the principles of squash and stretch, weight, and personality in animation, and it cemented Luxo Jr. as a beloved symbol of Pixar's craft and creativity.

In Pixar's famous opening logo sequence, Luxo Jr. bounds into view, hops toward the center of the screen, and dramatically squashes the studio's yellow star logo, which replaces the 'I' in PIXAR, before the letter springs back into place.
