Captain Hook

Captain Hook first appears in J.M. Barrie's 1904 play and 1911 novel as the ruthless seafaring villain who terrorises Neverland. His backstory, as told in later retellings, is that he was a former naval officer who lost his hand in a duel with the young Peter Pan, a loss that fuels his obsessive desire for revenge.

Hook’s personality is a blend of theatrical flair and strategic menace. He is often portrayed as a flamboyant, eloquent speaker who uses wit and intimidation to maintain control over his crew. Despite his villainy, he exhibits a deep, almost tragic, attachment to the past and to the idea of a world where he is still king.

Visually, Hook is iconic: a tall, lean frame, a long coat, a top hat, and, of course, a silver hook where his hand once was. The color palette of his costume—rich blacks and reds—conveys both the danger of the sea and the opulence of a seasoned pirate.
